With the 2012 term holiday coming to an end, Clemency Uganda gave scholastic materials worth 400 USD to its needy children. These materials included exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, Mathematical sets, erasers, calculators, crayons, rubbers, sharpeners, among others. This exercise took place at our project office in Bugembe. An atmosphere of excitement filled the air as one by one school package. The children promised to work hard for better results in their academics this scholastics will help them during first study term which commences on 28/1/2013 for private schools and 4/2/2013 for government schools respectively. Community HIV/AIDS testing and counseling
We conducted a well attended HIV/AIDS community based voluntary counseling and testing exercise which attracted both the old and young. A total of 215 residents from Budumbuli village in Bugembe – Jinja had their blood tested during this exercise. Individuals, couples, children and their family members turned up to have their blood tested. The exercise also involved presentation of plays related to HIV/AIDS prevention and control by a local drama group, giving first line drugs such as cotrimoxazole prophylaxis infected and referring the chronically ill for further medical attention. Giving care and support to needy children
Clemency Uganda gave an assortment of care and support items to children under its charge during a function held at its head office in Bugembe- Jinja. During this function a total of 15 out of 135 orphans received items ranging from mattresses, blankets, and treated mosquito nets to clothes. This follows a needy assessment survey conducted between September and October 2012 where it was established that 98% of orphans in Bugembe- Jinja either hardly slept on anything, shared bedding's or covered themselves with their fists in the night. Some children and their care takers could not stop their tears from freely flowing as they were overwhelmed by the excitement of receiving mattresses and blankets. “We can’t believe this, thank you so much”, they were heard saying. Giving children these items came at a time of great need and we believe that they will help improve their lives and above all curb the spread of Malaria since they will be sleeping under treated mosquito nets. This function was attended by the children and their care takers and was presided over by Clemency Uganda's Executive Director, Neto Augustine. Also present was Ms. Nambi Zainah, our Project Administrator. The duo urged the care takers to take good custody of the items given to the children. They also appealed to the rest of the care takers to be patient since the organization lacked the capacity to give such items to all needy children. In case you would like to donate any material(s) to needy children, please email us or visit our donation page for more information. |
